Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Lake Natron

Journey to Lake Natron & Flamingo Experience

Your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha in the morning and begin the scenic drive to Lake Natron, which takes approximately 4–5 hours with stops. First, enjoy the journey through remote Maasai lands, where panoramic views of Ol Doinyo Lengai—the “Mountain of God”—dominate the horizon. In addition, you may spot wildlife such as zebras and giraffes along the way.

Afterward, stop for lunch en route before continuing to the Lake Natron area entrance. Upon arrival, a local Maasai guide will accompany you, as all excursions in this region are guided for safety and cultural respect.

Next, check in at Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge to refresh before heading out to explore the lake. Then, walk along the shallow alkaline waters and observe the spectacular flamingo colonies, especially active during sunset.

Wake up early for breakfast before beginning the summit hike of Ol Doinyo Lengai, the sacred “Mountain of God.” First, start your trek from the base and ascend through steep volcanic slopes and rugged terrain. In addition, use trekking poles, wear a sun hat, and carry plenty of water, as the path is steep and covered with loose volcanic gravel.

As you climb, enjoy breathtaking views over the Great Rift Valley and surrounding Maasai lands. Eventually, reach the summit at sunrise, where you can capture spectacular photos and panoramic landscapes.

Afterward, carefully descend back to the base and return to your lodge for rest, refreshment, and lunch. Finally, depart Lake Natron in the afternoon and drive back to Arusha, arriving in the evening and concluding your unforgettable adventure.
